Network Type Definitions

Use these classifications for appliance interface mapping and audit context.

Network Type Use For Examples
Internet Untrusted networks Public internet, external networks you do not control
External Partner or semi-untrusted networks VPN partners, third-party networks, SaaS/private interconnects
DMZ Exposed services Public-facing servers, reverse proxies, web apps
Internal User or general trusted networks Employee devices, standard internal traffic
Restricted High-trust or sensitive networks Domain controllers, management interfaces, firewalls, backup systems, security tooling
Network types are assigned to each appliance interface when configuring an appliance. The audit engine uses these to provide context-aware security analysis.
