Network Type Definitions
Use these classifications for appliance interface mapping and audit context.
| Network Type | Use For | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Internet | Untrusted networks | Public internet, external networks you do not control |
| External | Partner or semi-untrusted networks | VPN partners, third-party networks, SaaS/private interconnects |
| DMZ | Exposed services | Public-facing servers, reverse proxies, web apps |
| Internal | User or general trusted networks | Employee devices, standard internal traffic |
| Restricted | High-trust or sensitive networks | Domain controllers, management interfaces, firewalls, backup systems, security tooling |
Network types are assigned to each appliance interface when configuring an appliance. The audit engine uses these to provide context-aware security analysis.
